How to access any computer over the network from your MAC.
Open the Connect To Server window box. From the Finder click on GO, then on CONNECT TO SERVER...#K
In the Server Address field type the address of of the Apple computer you want to connect to, or click on BROWSE to view a list of available computers.
A computer not showing in the browsing list is not necessarily unavailable! If you know its name or IP address, type it in the Server Address field.
Ex: address_of_the_server (if you know the Apple's full name)
Or: 128.252.181.xyz (if you know the numeric IP address)
Or ask your sys admin
In some cases it may be necessary to type afp://address_of_the_server instead of address_of_the_server
To add the server address in the Favorite Servers address list click on the + sign next to the Server Address field.
As you Connect you must identify yourself to be granted access to the distant Apple computer (server).
You are connected to the distant MAC when on your desktop appears an icone labled after the distant computer.
Else, contact your sys admin.
How to CONNECT your MAC to distant PC or PC server?
The procedure is the same as to connect to a distant MAC, excepted for the address format; you must start the address with with the string smb://
EX: smb://address_of_the_server (if you know the Apple's full name)
Or: smb://128.252.181.xyz (if you know the numeric IP address)
Or ask your sys admin
Extra Information
A computer connected to our network must have a legitimate IP address. You can use this IP address in the server address field, or you can use the computer's Fully Qualified Domain Name. The FQDN is easier to remember than the IP address which is a collection four numbers.
